Another three days of listening to FT8 signals on 28 MHz. Each day is kind of similar with small differences.
Fri 9th Nov 2018. The usual mix of Sporadic-E from Europe and F2 from South Africa and Brazil.
Sat 10th Nov 2018. There was really a big Sporadic-E opening to Europe on this day with lots of stations heard. It was remarkable to see just how many stations in the Netherlands are on FT8!
Some interesting DX heard as well.
VO1NE was of interest because it's East-West which usually requires a higher MUF than North-South paths.
9Y1QDJ in Trinidad was an interesting one. I guess, anything from the Caribbean is of interest.
What also was of interest was that I heard no fewer than 11 stations from South Africa. They always seem to be around Johannesburg as opposed to Cape Town. I suspect that the band is probably open to many areas of Africa, it's just that there is nobody active.
Sun 11th Nov 2018. Another day with plenty of Sporadic-E signals. I'm not sure what the signals from Russia were? Double hop Sporadic-E or F2? Impossible to tell.
Other than A41ZZ in Oman, I heard no real DX. No South America or South Africa. I know stations in the UK heard Brazil but these signals weren't heard here.
In conclusion, not a bad three days considering the Solar Flux is down at 69 and we're at the bottom of the cycle. November is supposed to be a quiet month but as there three days have shown, there was plenty of signals on the band.
