I suspect the band is often open to others part of Africa except that there is no-one on from those countries.

I saw D68CCC spotted on SSB at thursday. Unfortunately I was not at home. But they seemed to be pretty strong. Yes I believe propagation is quite good to Africa, if only there was activity from thos countries....73, Bas
During the contest the weekend before I worked many European stations both on Saturday and Sunday, managed to work 6w1ry and P33W who was very strong.Also worked CT3HF but the best was FY5KE. The one that got away was D4C who was 55 with me, but even with a good period of quietness he couldn't hear me, I wonder what he was running?73s Lloyd
